Great new race to celebrate the 20th Aniversary of the FNSS series. Another good turn out from the Plumz.
Big battle between the Burton massive and the…..Burton Massive. Glynn explains;
Of course I should of done this race solo in preparation for D2D, but the thought soon passed! Yes I have entered solo!,
Burton James was keen to race, but not so sure about solo so I offered to team up. Without sounding disrespectfull I did not expect to do that well given James’s FNSS results, but thought it would be fun.
Anyway I went off first & with a good griding & a good first lap, putting us in particular a fair way ahead of Brownie & Pilch. I was elated to see James then hold the gap and come in ahead of Piltch I realised the guy was putting in a superb effort, so it was game on…
Each lap I was gaining some time & James was loosing some but managing to stay ahead, I realised our gap was getting less but kept on going. Then penultimate lap Piltch arrived about 20 sec in front of James for the first time.
psychologically this was hard, but I threw everything at my last lap & had caught Paul by the double ditches & passed him on the fireroad. Wahoo I kept the pressure on & found his light disappearing & reappearing behind me, with a final effort I hit the last decent hard, but was shot by the time I climbed the singletrack by the field edge & Paul was right behind me.
He now had the mental edge & I was waiting for the inevitable sprint which I could not answer to! So 3 hrs of racing & the old boys beat us by a second.
I loved actually having a good “race” & James was solid all night long, so I guess I only have myself to blame for that one! still 5th senior is the highest I am gonna get this year!
